Taking a serious cognizance of speed boats operating at excessive speed in the Mandovi River, the Captain of Ports has warned to take action against those boats and cruise vessels which are found exceeding the speed limit of nine knots.
Captain of Ports Octavio Rodrigues, in a circular issued, pointed out that the over speeding action endangers human life apart from damage to the facilities like floating jetties.
“It has been brought to his notice that some of the high speed petrol boats operating in River Mandovi are running with excessive speed which generates substantial wakes that damage the boat docked along the jetties as well as river shore and floating jetties in the vicinity,” he said in the circular.
“Also, this endangers the safety of the people while embarking and disembarking to jetties and vice versa,” it added.
“Therefore, all owners/ masters of the speed boats, launches, cruise vessels, barges plying in the river are hereby directed not to exceed the speed limit of 09Knot. Violation would be viewed seriously,” the circular stated.
