CSIR-NIO partners with firms for sustainable waste solutions

CSIR-National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) has joined hands with a Wastewater Treatment facility in Mumbai-Organica Biotech Pvt Ltd to develop sustainable bioremediation solutions using marine micro-organisms for eco-friendly pollution control and waste treatment.

CSIR-NIO signed series of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Non-disclosure Agreements (NDA) last week during CSIR Innovation Complex, Mumbai with leading companies to drive innovation in the field of marine biotechnology.

According to the statement issued by NIO, it signed an NDA with Shaivaa Algaetech LLP, Surat to scale up the production of the high-value bioactive pigment fucoxanthin from marine microalgae.

A MoU was signed with Organica Biotech Pvt Ltd and another with HiMedia Lavoratories Pvt Ltd, Mumabi for the development of specialised media to culture marine extremophiles.

The agreements were exchanged by NIO director Prof Sunil Kumar Singh and representatives of the collaborating companies.
