The Curchorem Bazaarkar Market Association along with other allied associations have raised several problems faced by them in carrying out business activity in Curchorem.

At a meeting on Saturday, the shopkeepers highlighted the issue of traffic affecting the business community and parking woes faced by consumers.

They resolved to have a meeting with traffic officials and get the issue resolved.

The shopkeepers also discussed the issue of cultural festival ‘Chanderi’ to be held in Curchorem in the coming days and problems related with the festival.

While most shopkeepers claimed that they are not against the festival which is purely a cultural festival, but were opposed to the sale of general products and other items at the festival. They claimed the Chanderi festival should exclusively devoted for cultural programmes without any shops, as it affected their business activity.

The shopkeepers also raised the issue of inordinate delay caused in the reconstruction of the municipal owned building in the old market near the railway station.

The Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council (CCMC) had assured to get the project work completed and provide beneficiaries affected by the project with shops in the new building within five years.

The project has, however, been delayed for quite a long time and the shopkeepers feel the building will not be ready in the next couple of years.

The shopkeepers also resolved to meet the CCMC officials and address their grievances discussed at the meeting.
