MARGAO
Sonsodo turned into a nightmare for motorists on the Margao-Curtorim road on Tuesday evening after unseasonal rain. In response, Curtorim Independent MLA Reginaldo Lourenco on Wednesday questioned his critics, asking whether he was responsible for the Sonsodo mess. He insisted that he had worked on solutions to tackle the issue.
Reginaldo pointed out that the Sonsodo problem affects three constituencies—Fatorda, Margao, and Curtorim. He stressed that solving it requires good intentions, teamwork, and a genuine desire to fix the issue, without letting egos or petty politics get in the way. Taking aim at his political rivals, he criticised them for attacking him despite his efforts to address the problem.
“We work 24/7 in our constituency, and I am always available to listen to people’s concerns—whether it’s health issues, accidents, electricity, roads, water, funerals, unexpected rains, disasters, or helping the poor. I have extended my services to everyone,” he said.
He added, “I have carried out major development work in Curtorim, more than anyone else before me. That’s why some people are jealous and plotting against me.”
Reginaldo said Tuesday’s unexpected thunderstorm was beyond anyone’s control. “I didn’t make it rain, but it happened. Sometimes unfortunate events occur, and I share my concern,” he said.
“I rushed from the Assembly and ordered the fire brigade to help my people. I have always supported people in need, no matter which constituency they belong to, or their caste or religion—because I believe in humanity. My people know the difference between me and my opponents. My rivals are driven by ego, resorting to cheap publicity by shouting and complaining, yet they offer no solutions or support,” he added.
