South Goa MP Captain Viriato Fernandes on Thursday said the High Court order on staying the Dabolim flyover has uncovered the conspiracy to shut down the Dabolim airport to facilitate sale of Goan land in Mormugao taluka.

Addressing the media during his visit to the South Goa Collectorate on Thursday, the MP has promised to raise the issue in Parliament and also draw attention of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi how the Goa government had gone ahead with the Dabolim flyover without the nod from the Navy.

He blamed two prominent ruling politician behind the conspiracy to shut down the Dabolim airport by constructing the Dabolim flyover without Navy’s nod just to sell the Goan land for big time real estate developers. “The Dabolim flyover required NOC from the Navy, but was not taken for obvious reasons. We have uncovered the conspiracy that the entire game plan was to shut down the Dabolim airport and ensure the sale of Goan land”, he said.

He added: “They must have told the Prime Minister that the flyover is being built to facilitate coal transportation. The idea was to build the flyover to such a height where no commercial plane could land. Their game plan is to stop Dabolim airport. Because, once Dabolim airport is stopped, they can do any type of construction in the area”, he said, adding that he would bring to the notice of the Prime Minister how public money has been wasted on a project without adhering to the rules.

“The Navy had been telling the National Highway Authority officials to seek the NOC because they would come to know of the project. However, they were not taking the NOC because they did not want to disclose their game plan”, he said, while urging the people of Goa to unitedly fight to save Goa from destruction.
