The Masjid E Noor at Dabolim is keen to welcome the Ram Navami procession near the Masjid in a bid to promote harmony among religions.

This was announced at the recent Eid Milan celebration with members of other faiths at the Masjid.

Speakers at the function were Parish Priest of St Andrew's Church (Vasco) Fr Anthony Vaz, social worker and poet Sneha Bhandare and member of Jamat-E-Islami Hind Moulana Shahid Memon.

Welcoming the gathering, trustee of the Masjid E Noor, Iqbal Mohidin, said during the last 20 years of its existence, Masjid E Noor had strived to promote peace and harmony by inviting religious leaders of other communities for inter-faith meetings.

"Twenty years ago, we had broken the tradition and had invited Muslim women to offer Namaz at Masjid E Noor. Today after 20 years, we have broken another tradition and invited a non-Muslim woman to address the gathering in the Masjid," said Mohidin.

In view of recent communal clashes on the day of Ram Navami, Mohidin requested the Ram Navami Committee to inform them two days in advance as the Muslim community would love to welcome the procession near the Masjid with hugs and offer them sweets and drinks.

Speaking on the occasion, Fr Anthony Vaz, Parish Priest of St Andrew's Church, said people, right from the time of their childhood, are taught the values and culture of other religions and highlighted the importance of tolerance among all faiths.

Sneha Bhandari, poet and businesswoman, emphasised the need to have compassion for others, to be in tune with the universe and to bring peace and harmony in society.

Shahid Memon, a member of the Jamat e Islami Hind spoke about the acts of piety and charity during the Holy month of Ramzan.

"Ramzan trains oneself to be submissive to his Creator and to be loving and caring to his fellow human beings," said Memon

The Eid Milan programme, which was attended by many Hindu and Christian guests, was followed by fellowship and dinner.
