In what could possibly lead to a major rift between the two long-standing allies, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is now eying the Madkai seat for the 2027 general Assembly elections, the constituency which is currently held by its alliance partner Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party.

The development also comes at a time when both parties have publicly announced to contest the next polls together.

Dhavalikar holds Power, New and Renewable Energy, and Housing portfolios, making Madkai a delicate balancing act of alliance politics and BJP’s independent ambitions.

The BJP entrusted its new State president Damu Naik with the task of strengthening the party’s influence in the traditionally challenging Madkai besides Velim, Nuvem and Benaulim constituencies.

At a grand event to officially announce Naik's appointment who replaced Sadanand Shet Tanavade, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant spoke about the importance of these constituencies.

“The BJP has been victorious in three consecutive terms since 2012 and has also shown dominance in local body elections under various State presidents. We are setting our sights on 2027 with renewed determination. Marcaim, Velim, Nuvem and Benaulim... It is Naik’s responsibility to ensure BJP’s strength in all 40 constituencies,” Sawant said.

CM also lauded Naik’s conciliatory approach, describing him as someone capable of bridging differences for the party's organizational goals. “Naik has the ability to resolve misunderstandings and bring everyone together. It is now his duty to strengthen the party’s presence across all constituencies to ensure our 'double engine sarkar' remains intact,” Sawant added, while also insisting BJP’s win for the upcoming Zilla Panchayat and municipalities polls.

Naik, assuring to uphold party discipline and foster internal unity, cautioned against airing grievances on social media. He called BJP a “family” where disputes must be resolved internally.

“Posting issues on Facebook or other social media platforms is not the solution. If there are differences, they should be addressed within the party. We are a family and the party is a home. The BJP functions as a disciplined and systematic organization where loyalty will always be rewarded,” he stated.

Acknowledging insecurities between senior and new party workers, if not among all, Naik called for coordination and mutual respect. “There may be apprehensions among old and new workers, but this should not hinder our progress. Everyone must work together for the party's growth and avoid any discord,” he said.

BJP National General Secretary Sunil Bansal, who oversaw the election process, echoed the sentiment stating it is important to target weaker areas. “Goa is small in size but significant in impact. Under BJP leadership at the State and central levels, the State has witnessed tremendous development. This is the time for renewed energy and focus,” Bansal added.
