The gram sabha of the Davorlim village panchayat on Sunday was informed that the panchayat has called for demarcation of the village boundaries.
At the meeting chaired by Deputy Sarpanch Vidhadar Arlekar, members raised a host of issues, including illegalities on comunidade land, tenant verification, preservation of natural resources including springs and water bodies, etc.
The acting sarpanch informed the gram sabha that the panchayat at the monthly meeting have resolved to ask for a surveyor to demarcate the village boundaries. Gram sabha member Andrew Rebello, however, insisted that the panchayat crack a whip against the illegal structures mushrooming in the village at the earliest. “I do not know what purpose will be served by the demarcation of the village boundaries. More than the demarcation of village boundaries, the panchayat should focus on cracking a whip against illegal construction inside the village,” Andrew added.
He also raised the issue of missing construction files, saying the files are important documents pertaining to the construction of houses. The acting sarpanch assured that the panchayat will check and verify the allegations pertaining to the missing files.
Andrew also raised the issue of tenant verification, which has been dragging in the village for the last three years. He demanded that the panchayat should take up the work on priority giving the large number of outsiders visiting the village.
