PANAJI: Mandrem police have arrested Deepan Rajeev Batra (23), a native of Delhi, in connection with a fatal accident that occurred late on Friday evening. The accident resulted in the death of Mariefeliz Fernandes, a resident of Junaswada, Mandrem.
According to the police, the accused driving the i20 bearing registration number DL 4CBC 2576 allegedly hit Fernandes while she was standing by the roadside.
Batra surrendered before the Mandrem police, after which he was placed under arrest.
The incident led to a tense situation in Mandrem with local residents accusing Batra of murder.
