President of All Goa Bus Association Sudip Tamhankar on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Pernem RTO, demanding space for a dedicated stand for the black-yellow taxis at Mopa Airport and to name it as the Mopa Airport Taxi Stand.
The memorandum has stressed the need for such a taxi stand to generate employment to the local taxi drivers.
Later interacting with local reporters, Tamhankar said the government should give priority to local taxi drivers and not app-based operators.
The demand to have a permanent taxi stand at the airport comes on the backdrop of claims that the tourist taxi operators will not get a dedicated stand there, as the transport department takes an undertaking from such operators that taxi operators should station their taxi at home and offer services to the passengers on call.
“However, the government should give priority to local taxi operators and construct a permanent stand for them at the airport,” demanded Tamhankar.
