MARGAO
Dengue has raised its ugly head at the Margao police headquarters, with reports saying a couple of policemen are down with the disease.
As a preventive measure, the Margao Urban Health Centre on Tuesday carried out fogging operations at the complex of the police headquarters to keep the mosquito at bay.
Sources said at least a couple of confirmed cases of dengue affecting policemen have come to light, with sources not ruling out the possibility of more cases being detected at the police headquarters.
The health personnel were taken for a round of the complex to carry out the fogging operation as a precautionary measure.
The Margao Urban Health centre has reported several dengue cases in recent weeks. Health Officer Dr Soccorro Quadros has appealed to the citizens to join hands with the health authorities to keep the mosquito and vector-borne diseases at bay.
Dr Quadros pointed out that since the mosquito causing dengue breeds in fresh water, inside the houses, including the buckets and water tanks, besides the water accumulating under the flower pots, citizens should be cautious in disposing of water accumulation inside their houses.
“Our health teams are on the job to handle the emerging dengue situation. But, we want the cooperation of the citizens in the battle against dengue,” Dr Quadros said, adding that dengue can be controlled in the city if the citizens join hands with the health authorities.
Though several dengue cases have come to light, health officials pointed out there’s no outbreak of dengue in the commercial capital.
