Desmond Dias is the new Sarpanch of the tourist village of Cavelossim.
At a meeting held to elect a new village Sarpanch, Desmond was elected unopposed to the vacant post after the Presiding Officer received his lone nomination papers.
A first time Panch, Desmond’s name for the post was proposed by outgoing Sarpanch Dionizio Dias and seconded by Dy Sarpanch Cyntia Rodrigues. Since there was no other name for the post, the Presiding officer declared Desmond as the new village Sarpanch.
He succeeds Dionizio Dias, who had quit officer earlier this month to pave way for the member of the group to take over the reigns of office.
Speaking to the media, Desmond said he would accord top priority for the COVID vaccination, saying the panchayat will take steps to get more and more people vaccinated.
Outlining his other priorities, the newly-elected Sarpanch said the panchayat would make sure that the Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDPs) approved by the villagers are forwarded to the concerned departments for implementation.
Saying that villagers have been raising questions on the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP), Desmond said the Panchayat would be open in convening a meeting of the villagers for further discussion on the CZMP.
