Devotees throng Old Goa for feast, spend night in the open

OLD GOA
A large number of devotees, mostly from South Goa, made Old Goa their home on the eve of the feast, spending the night in the open grounds and on the footpath.

Some of the devotees walked from faraway places to make it to Old Goa so that they could participate in the early morning Masses on the Feast Day, with many of them preferring to attend the 4 am Mass.

After reaching Old Goa, the devotees occupied any place that was available in the precincts of the Se Cathedral and the St Francis of Assisi churches, with many occupying the footpaths as well to spend the night.

On the Feast Day, majority of the devotees participated in the first Mass of the feast at 4 am.

The open areas at the precincts of the Basilica of Bom Jesus as well as the Se Cathedral became a ground for devotees to spend some quality time with their families and friends as many such family gatherings were seen, mostly at the Se Cathedral precinct.

Also, as usual, the fair was a hit as people thronged the fair to buy different types of stuff put up for sale.

Stalls selling traditional sweets and grams were also in huge demand among the people.
