MARGAO
Newly-posted Director General of Police, Alok Kumar’s mantra to the subordinates is plain and simple – work with a smiling face, attend all complaints and work with diligence.
He also gave a clean slate to the men-in-uniform, noting that the Goa Police have a good reputation, citing the recent breakthrough in the Calangute murder case.
During his first visit to the South Goa district police headquarters, followed by visits to the Margao and Colva police stations on Saturday afternoon, the new DGP held discussions with district police chief SP Sunita Sawant, Sub-Divisional Police Officer DySP Santosh Desai, Margao PI Tulsidas Naik, and others to review the crime rate and assess the situation.
After the meeting, the DGP told waiting media at the district police headquarters that he had reviewed the crime situation with the district police chief and other officials and discussed ways to further improve policing in the district.
He mentioned that the meeting also focused on road accidents, the staff managing traffic cells, and strategies to reduce accidents. “We have conducted a comprehensive review of the crime situation and discussed how to enhance policing. We also addressed logistical issues affecting the police stations and how to overcome these shortcomings,” he added.
In response to a question about the public-police relationship, the DGP stated that the police have been attentive to complaints and emphasised that the Goa Police are well-regarded for their effectiveness in solving cases. Citing the recent murder case at the Calangute police station, Kumar noted that the case was resolved swiftly and reaffirmed the Goa Police’s commitment to improving police-public relations.
Following his visit to the Margao police station, the new DGP visited the Colva police station, accompanied by SP Sunita Sawant, to assess the situation at this key police station, which oversees the entire Salcete coastal belt.
SP Sunita Sawant later informed the media that the DGP reviewed crime control, prevention, and detection efforts. She noted that the DGP emphasized the need for police personnel to handle crime cases with diligence.
