The 35th Annual Inspection Day Parade and prize distribution ceremony was held on Saturday at Goa State Fire Force Training Ground, St Inez in Panaji in the presence of Chief Secretary, Government of Goa Dr Puneet Kumar Goel (IAS) who hoisted the flag in the presence of Nitin V Raiker, director, Directorate of Fire & Emergency Services, Sneha Gitte Special Secretary (Home) and Dr PK John (founder director of DFES).
Goel inaugurated the Vehicle Tracking and Management System (GPS) which has enhanced the response mechanism while attending to fire and emergency incidents across the State. In his speech Goyal commended the performance of the March Past, Ladder Drill and Winners of the Athletic Events and praised the departments performance towards prompt and effective response in attending to Fire & Emergency Calls compared to the last three years.
The director of Fire and Emergency Services Nitin V Raiker highlighted the importance of the Annual Inspection Day and further informed that the long pending issue of inducting women in the Fire Service Department have come to a fruitful conclusion. The department has appointed first time in the history of Goa Fire and Emergency Services one women sub-officer and three women fire fighters who are presently undergoing elementary course in General Fire Fighting at Regional Training Centre, Goa State Fire Force Panaji.
“The government of India has recommended, a Model Bill 2019, so that there is broad uniformity across the country, for Fire and Life Safety Regulations. The Department had proposed to the government, for adopting the bill, and the proposal is at final stage, for getting the legislative approval,” said Raiker.
“This is an important occasion for the department because this is when our administrative superiors have an opportunity to critically scrutinize the performance and efficiency of our operational units. Besides the purely ceremonial events, annual sports and annual drill competition among the fire stations helps in toning up the quality of work at the cutting edge when it comes to saving the life and property of citizens,” said Raiker.
