Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud emphasized the importance of modern judicial infrastructure while claiming district courts are the backbone of the legal system.

Speaking after inaugurating the new North Goa District and Sessions Court Complex in Merces today, the CJI also applauded Goa's development.

"I am impressed with the development in Goa. The new infrastructure for the judiciary is crucial for ensuring that everyone is heard, as district courts are the backbone of our system," he said addressing the gathering l.

Justice Chandrachud further stressed the need for courts to foster an inclusive environment. "We must ensure that everyone feels valued and respected in our courts. Derogatory language, particularly against women, has no place here. Instead, we should adopt a language of inclusivity, respect, and empowerment," he stated.

The CJI also made a major announcement that the Supreme Court will begin translating its judgments into all Indian languages including Konkani and Marathi.

"I am glad that Supreme Court judgments are now translated into Konkani. This process requires expertise, and I am confident that the Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court will ensure that judgments are translated into the local language, enabling the people of the state to understand them," he noted at the Governor's book launch.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, also present at the function, described the new complex as "not just a district court but a branch of the Supreme Court," stating that Goa is entering a new era of judicial infrastructure.

The inauguration was attended by CM Pramod Sawant, Law Minister Aleixo Sequeira, Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court D.K. Upadhyaya, and other judges from the Supreme Court and Bombay High Court.
