Water flowing from the damaged water pipeline near the municipal office in Canacona.
CANACONA
The main water pipeline was damaged due to underground power cabling works in Canacona municipality late Tuesday evening, flooding the entire drain up to Bal Bhavan at Char-Rasta.
The pipeline was damaged by workers while trying to drill the cable underground on the road along the Palolem-Agonda Junction to Char-Rasta. Huge amounts of water got wasted as the roadside drain got flooded.
Underground cabling works have disrupted normal life in the area.
The contractor involved in laying the underground cabling has been accused of leaving the site without clearing mud from the roads excavated to lay the cables.
In one such incident, a stretch of about 350 metres of an internal road in Agonda has been excavated on one side, and the excavated mud has been dumped on the road.
Workers closed the trenches they had excavated after pulling two large cables up to an existing transformer, and then left the site without clearing the remaining mud from the road.
The dust has caused inconvenience to residential houses in the locality at Karashir moll.
Locals claimed that despite complaints, even the PWD (roads) have failed to clear the mud from the road. There are also complaints from residents in other areas that the trenches have not been closed properly.
