With a large number of Gauncars from the Upper Ghats region taking part in elections to the managing committee of Comunidade Fraternal De Aldona on Sunday, Glen Bocarro who was re-elected President of the Comunidade said it was a record turnout by Gaoncars in the history of the Comunidade.
“A panel was floated by the opposition but it was a clean sweep for the Gauncars who have intensified their fight with the builders lobby who have created havoc in Aldona village,” Glen Bocarro said.
“Our committee was voted back with a trust that we would safeguards the Comunidade land at Aldona.”
Added Gabriel D’Souza: “The Gauncars who are now aware of their rights are determined to safe guard their lands and fight the builders. We are also looking forward for the overall development of the Comunidade in the interest of the stakeholders while the Gauncars from the upper ghats region are seeking for some place for them to reside when they visit Goa.”
Fr Matthew Bardeskar, a Jesuit whose octogenarian father Shahu Bardeskar also reached Aldona to vote in the Comunidade elections, said the Gauncars from the Upper Ghats region now residing in Mumbai, Pune and other places came all the way to exercise their vote which shows interest in safeguarding their ancestral land.
