Former Mandrem Sarpanch Mahesh Konadkar was attacked by five masked persons late last night in Askawada, Mandrem. The attackers reportedly asked, "Do you want Michael Lobo?" before assaulting him with iron rods.
“I was near the culvert when five people with their faces covered came and questioned me if I wanted Michael (Lobo). They immediately started beating me up. I don’t know who they are, but I suspect they are from Pernem,” Konadkar told reporters. He further stated that the assailants were in a white car bearing registration number GA 11 P 1169
Konadkar was discharged from Tuem Health Centre subsequently.
MLA Michael Lobo condemned the "very dangerous" attack demanding a thorough police investigation.
“I condemn the attack. We are MLAs of Goa; our constituencies may be different, but that does not mean we will keep quiet. The attack is condemnable. It is very dangerous. The police should conduct a thorough investigation,” he said.
Police are investigating the case, but no arrests have been made so far.
