The forest department has sanctioned Rs 10 lakh as compensation to the family of Mangal Shantaram Gawde of Bethora, after she was gored to death by a bison.
While a cheque for Rs 7 lakh was handed over to the family of the deceased Mangal Gawde, a cheque for the balance of Rs 3 lakh will be given in January. Mangal Gawde was attacked by a bison near her house in Bethora on the evening of October 12 and she succumbed to her injuries at the GMC hospital the next day.
Forest department officials submitted a report after conducting an inquest and investigation.
Since there is a provision to provide compensation of Rs 10 lakh to the family in case of a death in a wild animal attack, the forest department pursued the matter and sanctioned the compensation to the family of Mangal Gawde.
