The Alemao clan consisting of the father-daughter duo of Churchill and Valanka Alemao suffered a defeat at the hustings when their plans to make it to the Assembly on the Trinamool Congress party banner from Benaulim and Navelim, respectively, came a cropper.
However, Churchill’s nephew Yuri Alemao made it to the Legislative Assembly from Cuncolim on the Congress banner.
This is the second time in a decade that the father-daughter duo of Churchill and Valanka has failed to together make it to the Legislative Assembly.
In the 2012 election, both Churchill and Valanka along with Joaquim and Yuri Alemao had suffered defeats, which were attributed to family raj politics.
A decade down the lane, Churchill decided to seek reelection from Benaulim, while fielding daughter Valanka from Navelim. Both had joined the TMC in the run-up to the polls and had emerged strong contenders.
Valanka, in particular, had emerged as a force in Navelim as she had enjoyed the support of TMC MP Luizinho Faleiro and father Churchill Alemao, besides some of the sarpanchas and panchas of Navelim constituency.
