The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) seized nearly 200 kgs of adulterated fennel seeds (badishep) during a raid on a bus at the new Mapusa bus stand.

The bus had arrived in Goa from Pune, carrying several food items, including the fennel seeds, which were suspected to be of poor quality and adulterated. The total value of the seized items is estimated at Rs 70,000.

The FDA’s raid is part of its ongoing crackdown on adulterated and unlicensed food products in the state.

In addition to the fennel seeds, several other food products were confiscated during the operation.

FDA officials raised concerns over the poor quality and safety standards of the seized products, which could pose significant health risks to consumers. The absence of manufacturing dates and the suspected adulteration of commonly used ingredients like fennel seeds are major food safety concerns.

The FDA has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all food sold in Goa meets safety and licensing standards, with ongoing inspections aimed at protecting consumers from unsafe and substandard food products.
