The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) on Monday raided establishments selling unsanitary and unlicensed biryani in Calangute and Baga.
During the operation, one restaurant was closed due to unsanitary conditions and 80 kg of cooked biryani was seized.
Raids were conducted on hotels and stalls selling biryani in violation of health regulations.
For the past few days, FDA officials have been conducting a crackdown on adulterated food in the coastal areas of Calangute. They have been raiding shops selling cashew nuts, farsan and biryani. Food prepared in unsanitary areas has been banned as it poses a health risk to locals and tourists.
During this raid, banned e-cigarettes were also found at a stall. Those cigarettes were seized. The biryani seized during this operation was later disposed off with the help of Calangute Panchayat.
FDA Senior Food Safety Officers Rajaram Patil, Madhav Kavalekar, Bhakti Walke and Sujata Shetgaonkar were involved in the operations.
