Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday said that restaurants across Goa will be inspected for hygiene, and audits will be conducted of their kitchens and waste disposal mechanisms under the Food and Drugs Administration.

Rane said the inspections will be carried out in view of complaints pouring in from tourists and locals alike that some restaurants have poor hygiene and sanitation.

FDA officers and third-party auditors endorsed under FSSAI will conduct the inspections of all restaurant establishments across Goa, he said.

“These comprehensive audits will evaluate adherence to FSSAI food safety standards, maintenance of proper sanitation protocols, staff hygiene training practices and waste management systems,” Rane said in a post on the micro-blogging site ‘X’ (formerly Twitter).

“Restaurant owners must ensure full compliance with these requirements, as non-compliance may result in strict action under existing food safety regulations,” Rane said, adding that every restaurant will now be required to obtain and prominently display an official hygiene rating certificate at their premises.

The health minister also said that restaurateurs may seek clarification or additional information by contacting the FDA’s Bambolim office during regular working hours.
