OLD GOA
The Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) has lodged complaints with the Old Goa police on Saturday, against a GSIDC contractor and a garbage collector for dumping debris in khazan field at Morombi-O-Pequeno, Merces.
In the first complaint, RGP has informed that the road tar which was removed from the Atal Setu bridge has been found dumped in the khazan field.
“We cross-checked the Atal Setu tar with the one dumped in the field and found that it was the same,” Parab informed Old Goa PI Satish Padwalkar and urged him to initiate action against the contractor employed by GSIDC under relevant sections of the law.
In the second complaint, RGP pointed out that during the visit of the leaders to the Morombi-O-Pequeno khazan field, one vehicle was found which belonged to a garbage contractor.
“This is the same person who was earlier involved in dumping debris and filling low lying area in Morombi-O-Grande. Now with his vehicle found at the Morombi-O-Pequeno site, it is confirmed that he is involved in land filling there also,” Parab informed the PI and urged to take stern action against the garbage contractor as well.
Meanwhile, the RGP has also urged the police inspector to act on hawking along the Merces bypass road.
While assuring his full support in the land filling as well as hawking issue, Padwalkar said that he has also written to the Chief Town Planner to lodge complaint with the police in the land filling issue.
“Once we received complaint from the TCP, we will initiate action in the land filing matter,” he added.
On the issue of hawking along the Merces bypass road, PI Padwalkar said that the police have limited powers in dealing with the same and that the local panchayat should initiate action.
“But we are going to contact the Merces panchayat authorities and if, need be, conduct a joint operation to clear all hawkers along the bypass road,” Padwalkar assured.
