A shop, located at the last stop in New Vaddem, caught fire on Sunday afternoon, causing an estimated loss of Rs 1 lakh. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

Vasco fire officials received a call about the fire around 1:50 PM and quickly rushed to the scene.

“Reaching the location was difficult due to narrow roads and bikes parked on both sides. By the time we arrived, locals had already put out the flames,” said a fire officer.

Sofia Fernandes, the shop owner, explained that she had closed the shop just ten minutes earlier to go home for lunch when the fire broke out.

“We got a call from locals about smoke coming from the shop. When we returned and opened the shop, we found the fire had destroyed recently bought stock, including rice, oil, spices, and other provisions. The loss is about Rs 1 lakh,” Fernandes said.

She also mentioned that there are no electrical wires in the area, so a short circuit is unlikely to be the cause of the fire, leaving the exact reason for the incident unclear.
