A fire erupted on the ground floor of anapartment in Fatorda today, resulting in substantial damage estimated at nearlyRs 2 lakh. The blaze, which started due to a fridge in the kitchen, causedsevere damage.
The apartment, owned by Derek Gracias whois currently abroad, was locked at the time of the incident. Neighbours,noticing smoke emanating from the premises, alerted the fire brigade.
Fire Officer Herculano D’Souzastated, “We received a call at 11:55 AM regarding smoke from the apartment.Upon arrival, we saw that the fire originated from the fridge. Fortunately,it did not reach the gas cylinder, which could have led to a more severesituation.”
Firefighters managed to control the blaze,but the entire kitchen was destroyed, and the heat from the fire also damaged amotorcycle parked outside. D’Souza advised residents to always turn off themain power switch when leaving their homes to prevent such incidents.
