Private companies in Goa who hold recruitment drives without advertising the vacancies in the State will henceforth be penalised and fined, according to an amendment to the Employment Exchanges (compulsory Notification of Vacancies) Act, approved by the Cabinet on Thursday.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the amendment provides for levying fines on such rogue companies which will increase for repeat violations.
Companies with a workforce strength of up to 400 will be fined Rs 5,000 for the first violation and Rs 10,000 and Rs 15,000 for the second and third violation, respectively.
Those companies that employ more than 400 workers will be fined
Rs 20,000, Rs 25,000 and Rs 30,000 for the first, second and third violation respectively, Sawant said.
“The companies will have to advertise in local media as well as inform the local employment exchange,” he said.
Meanwhile, in other decisions the Cabinet gave post-facto approval for an expenditure of Rs 5 crore for the 'Exposition' and another Rs 19-odd lakhs of expenditure incurred by the North Goa Collectorate during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Yet another decision sanctioned hiring 24 'veterinary assistants' by the Animal Husbandry department on a contract basis and a grant of Rs 1.5 crore for the Goa Spiritual Festival 2025, which is to be organised by the Sadguru Foundation in association with Shree Datta Padmanabh Peeth on Saturday at the Devi Lairai temple in Shirgao.
