Panaji: Porvorim police have arrested five individuals for running an illegal cricket betting operation in a bungalow located in Salvador do Mundo.
Inspector Rahul Parab said that they received a reliable information about the betting activities. A team was formed, and a raid was carried out on late Monday night. During the raid, five people were caught accepting bets on various cricket leagues and other sports events happening worldwide.
The five arrested individuals are:
Ruchit Kumar from Bihar, Pranjal Bhati from Madhya Pradesh, Nikhil Kumar from Bihar, Kunal Kumar from Madhya Pradesh and
Vansh Sharma from Karnataka.
The accused were charged under Sections 3 and 4 of the Goa Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act.
The police seized mobile phones, laptops, and Wi-Fi routers worth Rs. 1.7 lakh from the scene.
