A 14-year lad met a watery grave at Majorda after he tried to retrieve a football from a local pond.
Colva police informed that the deceased boy Ravi Kishan Kumar, a resident of Majorda and a native of Bihar, was playing football with his friends in the fields at Majorda. During the play, the ball is believed to have fallen in a pond, the police said, adding that the deceased went in the pond to bring the ball only to get drowned accidentally.
The police said the boy was rescued by the locals and was shifted to South Goa district hospital by a 108 ambulance where he was declared brought dead.
The post mortem examination has certified the cause of death as “asphyxia as a result of drowning in water”. Later, the body of the deceased was handed over for final rites.
