Panaji: Fr. Mousinho de Ataide, a well-known Konkani writer and activist, has been nominated as the new president of the All India Konkani Parishad. He will take over from Arun Ubhaykar of Kumta, Karnataka, who has held the position for the past two years.
Born in Salvador do Mundo in 1950, Fr. Ataide was ordained as a priest in 1975. Since then, he has served in various roles within the Archdiocese of Goa. He earned a licentiate in canon law from Urbanian University in Rome and taught canon law at the Rachol Seminary for 15 years. He also served as the Diocesan Judge from 1990 to 2019.
Currently, Fr. Ataide is a Latin professor for postgraduate students at the Seminary of Saligao-Pilerne. He is the author of a historical monograph on the Rachol Seminary and is widely respected in Konkani circles for his activism and dedication to the language.
