The fragile eco-sensitive Mobor beach stretch at the mouth of river Sal, where the river empties into the river, came under the lens of the NCSCM scientists on a study tour to conduct shoreline study of the State’s beach belt.

A day after kick-starting the Goa shoreline study at the Majorda beach on Friday, the five-member team of scientists from the NCSCM, Chennai descended at the Cavelossim-Mobor beach after inspecting the Betul area.

The team along with Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixon Vaz descended at Mobor, right at the mouth of the river Sal, where the river joins the Arabian Sea. They saw the fragile eco-sensitive area, which has been hit by sea erosion over the years.

In fact, a portion of the beach area has been fenced with sand bags to reduce further destruction of the property by sea erosion. The area was in the news recently after locals complained of construction of the road in the No Development Zone, besides destruction of the tree cover in the property around a year and half ago.

During informal discussions with the Environment Minister Aleixo Sequeira at Majorda on Friday, the NCSCM scientists had favoured plantation of local variety of tree species to arrest sea erosion along the State’s coastal belt. The scientists are expected to make a host of recommendations after they cap their shoreline study on October 24.

Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixon informed that the team had just visited Mobor after a visit to the other side of the river Sal at Betul. He said the team is scheduled to visit the Cavelossim-Mobor stretch to conduct a detail shoreline study.
