Ganje locals demand removal of old bandhara fearing floods

VALPOI
People living in close vicinity of the old bandhara at Ganje have demanded its immediate removal.

A new bandhara project has been set up at a cost of around Rs 100 crore. However, this bandhara creates flood-like conditions during the rainy season, the citizens said and demanded its immediate removal. It is learned that a proposal has been submitted to the government to demolish the bandhara. Reliable sources said it will be demolished immediately after approval.

Meanwhile, according to information, a large bandhara was constructed in Mhadei river and Ganje under the scheme of water harvesting. Millions of liters of water were being stored from this bandhara. The government had diverted the water to revitalize the Opa river. As a result, the Opa river survives on the waters of the Mhadei.

Meanwhile, considering the available water reserves in Mhadei river , the government has come up with a new project at a cost of around Rs 100 crore. This has led to a huge increase in water storage capacity.

Meanwhile, the old bandhara is currently lying unused after the government set up a new project at a cost of Rs 100 crore. The bandhara is causing flood-like conditions during the rainy season. Therefore, the general public has demanded it should be demolished immediately.

Last year, there was a flood in Sattari taluka. It caused damage to property worth crores of rupees. However, the citizens the bandhara caused the flood. The wooden poles are stuck in the pillars of this bandhara and this obstructs the flow of water.

In the meanwhile, according to the information given by the villagers, farmers and citizens in this area, if this bandhara is becoming unusable, it is very necessary to remove it immediately.

The new project set up by the government is less likely to disrupt the flow of water. Obstruction of water flow during the rainy season can have serious consequences for the villagers on the banks.

The Irrigation Department has not yet granted permission for demolition of the old bandhara.
