Garbage from Calangute and Candolim beaches is not being collected regularly by the contractor, causing the beaches to become dirty.
Cruz Cardoz, President of the Goa Shack Owners Welfare Society, has submitted a written memorandum to the Minister of Tourism and the Director of Tourism to highlight this pollution issue.
The memorandum states that the beach cleaning contractor is not removing garbage consistently, making Calangute and Candolim beaches look unsightly. This has led to waste piling up on the shores. When questioned, the contractor claims that their vehicle has broken down. Additionally, the presence of garbage is damaging Goa’s reputation. Calangute is a major tourist destination, and the accumulation of waste sends a negative message to visitors. Therefore, the society has called for better waste management along the coast.
They have demanded that the contractor ensure services are not interrupted if a vehicle breaks down.
There should be an alternative vehicle available, and the problem needs to be resolved immediately.
