The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) held yet another inspection of the low-lying area in Santa Cruz, on Thursday, after the complainant, Khazan Society of Goa (KSG), approached the Court over non-removal of debris by the panchayat.
Despite several inspections and directives issued in the past, the debris in question reportedly remains on site. The KSG approached the court once again, highlighting the lack of full compliance. In response, the GCZMA initiated another site visit to verify the current situation on the ground.
Later speaking to reporters, KSG representative Elsa Fernandes said the inspection was held to ascertain whether there was compliance with the order to remove the debris, which was not the case.
Meanwhile, Santa Cruz Sarpanch Jennifer Oliveira said they were not aware of the inspection and came to know about it when one of the GCZMA officials called them.
"The panchayat was not aware of the inspection until one of the GCZMA officials called to inform in the morning," Oliveira said while questioning whether the complainant was not satisfied with the removal of the debris or the GCZMA.
"We had cleared the debris and had even submitted the compliance report," Oliveira said.
