The Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA) will be undertaking an aerial survey of the State coastal belt to identify the structures and CRZ violations, post monsoon season. The Authority is currently in the final stage of mapping houses of fishermen across 257 fishing wards, spread in seven coastal talukas.

The GCZMA is likely to rope in Directorate of Settlement and Land Records (DSLR) to undertake the drone survey to identify all the structures, spread across 108 kms coastal stretch and to zero upon those operating or built in no development zone (NDA).

“Due to the ongoing monsoon, the project is kept on hold. The same would be taken up post rains and once the ongoing survey held to identify fishermen houses is completed,” sources said.

The objective of the aerial survey is to demarcate hotels, residential buildings, houses, beach shacks, recreation parks, open plots and other tourism recreation-related activities that have come up over the years along the coastal belt. “The survey will give us a clear picture of violations, that is, structures that have come up in CRZ or NDZ,” sources said.

Meanwhile, the Digital Global Positioning survey (DGPS), commenced earlier this year, has so far mapped fishermen houses in Tiswadi, Bardez, Ponda and Salcete, while the work in Canacona is under progress.

“Next month, the work will commence covering Pernem and Mormugao taluka,” sources said adding ‘the survey is part of finalising Fishermen Community Plan, which would be incorporated as part of Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) 2019.

According to GCZMA, Bardez taluka has got the maximum 83 fishing wards, followed by 47 in Canacona, 44 in Salcete, 34 in Mormugao, 22 in Tiswadi, 15 in Pernem and 12 in Ponda.

The Fisherman Community Plan, drafted by the experts from GCZMA, two years back, had identified 250 fishing wards falling within or adjacent with CRZ areas.
