Germany can support India in energy transition: Scholz

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz being welcomed with a traditional Goan folk fusion on his arrival in the State.

Stating that Germany can play a role in supporting India in its energy transition in days to come, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Saturday said Germany and India will contribute towards green and sustainable energy for a better, healthier, and cleaner future for the citizens of India.

The German chancellor was speaking during an interaction with students of BITS Pilani in Sancoale. He had arrived in the State after launching the Green Hydrogen Roadmap in New Delhi on Friday, where India and Germany have agreed on the second phase of the Green Urban Mobility Partnership., as part of efforts to take Green and Sustainable Development Partnership forward.

On his arrival at the BITS Pilani campus at Sancoale, Scholz was welcomed by Vice Chancellor of BITS PILANI Prof. V Ramgopal Rao, Director of BITS Pilani, Goa campus Prof. Suman Kundu, and Dean Administration of BITS Pilani Goa campus Prof. Meenal Kowshik.

Scholz conducted a Q&A session with students of BITS Pilani, discussing current international political issues and the prospects for India-Germany cooperation.

In response to the questions about future cooperation between India and Germany, the Chancellor emphasised the importance of exchanging information and experiences between the two countries.

The German Chancellor said, “Germany can play a role in supporting India in its energy transition in days to come.”

Replying to the question about green and sustainable energy the Chancellor said Germany and India will contribute for a better, healthier, and cleaner future for the citizens of India.”

During the discussions with students, the emphasis was on several key pillars, including effective representation for young people, enabling opportunities for innovation through collaboration, and the importance of education and skills training including start-ups.

The German chancellor was given a presentation of four unique projects prepared by students of BITS Pilani and also interacted with students involved in the projects.

Presentations were made by the Society of Automotive Engineers, an Automotive Club of the campus which is one of the oldest technical clubs established in 2013, the Aerodynamics Club which competes in both national and international competitions, the Astronomy-Space Tech Club, and the Electronics and Robotics Club.

Earlier, the German Chancellor was accorded a traditional welcome on his one-day visit to the State.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant along with Union Minister of State for Ports Shripad Naik, Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth, Minister for Protocol Mauvin Godinho and Secretary (Protocol) Sanjit Rodrigues received Scholz on his arrival at INS Hansa, Dabolim.

Sawant presented Scholz a Kunbi shawl and traditional lamp. The Chancellor was welcomed with a traditional Indian Tika and a traditional Goan folk fusion on his arrival.
