The opposition Goa Forward party and Independent councillor Ganashyam Shirokdar seemed to have not shown any hurry to destabilize the BJP-ruled Margao Municipal Council in the l5 months.

In fact, the opposition group, enjoying the support of around nine councilors in the 25-member Civic body, is being watched by political observers, more so with the Damu Shirodkar completing 15 months in office on January 12 and voices of dissent heard loud and clear in the ruling group for a change in the leadership.

It is not out of place to mention that ruling BJP Councillor Camilo Barretto had publicly demanded that Damu Shirodkar step down from office to pave way for a more capable councillor to assume office.

The Goa Forward-Ganashyam Shirodkar combine needs the support of four more City Fathers to reach the magic figure of 13 to return back to power in the civic body. This implies that the  opposition would require the support of minimum four councillors to form a bare majority of 13 councillors to form the new council.
