GFP dares BJP to hold civic polls on party lines

MARGAO
Goa Forward leadership on Wednesday has dared the BJP to hold the ensuing municipal polls on party lines, saying the regional party will contest the polls on the party banner

and take on the ruling party head-on.

The party further said that its chief Vijai Sardesai will keep a close watch to ensure that the government implements the High Court’s order on reservation and delimitation of municipal wards in both letter and spirit.

Addressing the media along with party leader Sujay Lotlikar, who had filed the writ petition in the High Court, Goa Forward Vice-president Durgadas Kamat said though there’s no provision in the law to hold municipal polls on party lines, the Goa Forward Party will be ready for such an eventuality if the government comes out with an Ordinance to that effect.

“The BJP has won the ZP polls because of the disorganized opposition. But we would like to tell the ruling BJP that the Goa Forward will fight the municipal polls on the party banner and win the elections,” he added.

On the reservation and delimitation of municipal wards, Durgadas pointed out that though the Advocate General has submitted to the High Court that the reservations will be kept in public domain three weeks prior to the notification, the party will keep a close watch on the government to ensure that the submission is honoured and implemented in both letter and spirit.

“Our party leader Sujay Lotlikar had to knock the doors of the High Court to seek justice because the government is out to win the polls by manipulating the reservations and ward delimitation,” he said, adding that the Goa Forward would go back to the court as it has kept the matter open.
