Following a massive fire incident at car showrooms-cum-service centres at IDC Verna that led to destruction of 33 vehicles, the Goa Industrial Development Corporation (IDC) on Thursday revoked the occupancy certificates issued to the automobile service centres along with issuing show cause notice.
On Tuesday afternoon a major fire broke out at the dry grass in the Verna industrial Estate that spread through the area where service centres had parked their cars.
However no casualties were reported from the site. Based on the report submitted by the IDC estate wing, the Corporation decided to revoke the occupancy certificate and issue show cause notices, pending which all the operations ceased.
GIDC’s estate wing submitted a report about the massive fire that destroyed close to 40 premium cars. The report stated that the cars given for servicing by individuals were parked in an open space in violation of earlier strictures issued by the corporation.
Speaking to The Goan, IDC Managing Director Pravimal Abhishek said that the Corporation has revoked the occupancy certificates issued to these automobile service centres and accordingly their operations have been shut.
Abhishek said that IDC has also issued show cause notices to the retailers for violating its previous order to remove all the illegally parked vehicles. “We have asked them to reply within seven days. Necessary further action would be initiated thereafter,” he said.
The MD said that the car showrooms-cum-service centres ignored the previous notices issued to remove the vehicles.
