GMC gets NMC nod for MBBS and postgraduate seat expansion

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane announced that the National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved an increase in the intake of MBBS students at Goa Medical College (GMC) to 200 for the 2024-25 academic year.


The NMC has sanctioned the expansion of several postgraduate MD/MS courses at GMC. The newly approved seat increases include MD Radiodiagnosis, which will now accommodate 7 students, up from 6; MS General Surgery, with a significant increase from 6 to 15 seats; MS Obstetrics and Gynaecology, now offering 8 seats, up from 6; MD Pharmacology, increasing from 4 to 6 seats; and MD Pediatrics, which will see an increase from 7 to 10 seats.


“This expansion shows our commitment to foster medical talent and address the growing demand for skilled professionals. Approval of seat increases in various postgraduate MD/MS courses, including Radiodiagnosis, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Pharmacology and Paediatrics will enable us to provide more opportunities for aspiring doctors and specialists,” said Rane.
