Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today issued a stern warning against unethical religious conversion tactics under the guise of 'healing' or 'magical healing' in the State.
Addressing the event held to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Tribal icon Bhagwan Birsa Munda Jayanti, Sawant said that such illegal religious conversions have been taking place in the State for the last 60 years.
"We are not going to tolerate such practices. People should remain alert about religious conversions happening under the concept of praying for sick or healing," Sawant said adding "No more such conversions would be tolerated".
Healing meetings are common across India and in Goa too there have been instances.
Further speaking, Sawant announced significant welfare measures for Goa’s tribal communities, as part of a sub-tribal plan.
These initiatives aim to enhance access to essential services such as housing, electricity, toilets, gas connections, insurance, scholarships, and Forest Rights Certificates (FRC) for tribal residents across Goa from Pernem to Canacona.
Sawant stressed that these measures would address the gaps left by previous administrations and improve the quality of life for tribal populations.
Reflecting on Birsa Munda’s contributions to India’s independence movement and his efforts to protect tribal lands and forests from British rule, Sawant urged the community to ensure that our environment is protected through their traditional and religious methods.
