A high-level delegation from the Government of Goa, led by Suneel Anchipaka, IAS, Secretary for Industries, Trade and Commerce, along with Asvin Chandru, IAS, Director for Industries, and officials from the Education Department, EDC Ltd, Skill Development, and the Information and Publicity Department, visited the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) in Ahmedabad. The purpose of the visit was to learn and discuss strategies to boost entrepreneurship in Goa.
This visit was part of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s initiative to set up an Entrepreneurship Development Centre in Goa. The aim is to provide entrepreneurship education and training to students and young people in the state. EDII, based in Ahmedabad and considered a leading organisation in this field, has been chosen to help implement this plan.
The EDII-Goa Centre was inaugurated on 12 March 2024. In just one year, under the guidance of Pramod Sawant, the Centre has helped support new businesses in emerging sectors, strengthened existing MSMEs, and promoted entrepreneurship education and rural development across Goa.
During the visit, the delegation explored how entrepreneurship can bring about positive change. They discussed how to use new technologies and innovative practices to improve Goa’s entrepreneurial environment.
A key focus was on encouraging young people to take up entrepreneurship. The delegation spoke about setting up micro-incubators on college and university campuses to help students develop their business ideas, while also offering training and guidance.
Discussions covered a range of topics, including startups, innovation, technology, MSME growth, women’s entrepreneurship, and rural development.
The meeting reinforced the strong partnership between EDII and the Government of Goa in using the state’s natural and human resources to promote entrepreneurship. The state government is expected to launch several new initiatives to strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem and support aspiring entrepreneurs in Goa.
