Dr Francisco Luis Gomes was a famous Goan legislator and one of the early supporters of India’s independence movement. His profound influence on the Goan intelligentsia, combined with his political knowledge, was critical in shaping the Goan population’s political consciousness and earned him the appellation ‘Prince Amongst Intellectuals’. He also raised his voice against the slavery prevalent in African Colonies. Even after his death on September 30, 1869, he continues to leave behind an inspiring legacy.
