Goa has achieved significant growth over the past decade: CM

PANAJI: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant credited the BJP-led central and state governments for achieving remarkable progress in Goa over the past decade, during his address at the 63rd Goa Liberation Day celebrations held at the Goa University grounds on Tuesday. Sawant emphasized that the double-engine government of the BJP, with the PM at the helm, has driven development in the state, achieving in ten years what had not been accomplished in the previous fifty.

Sawant highlighted several initiatives that have contributed to the state's growth. The Swayampurna Goa campaign has brought tangible benefits to the people of Goa and gained recognition from other states and the Prime Minister. Under the Har Ghar Nal scheme, 40% of households now receive free water. 

More than 500 fishermen have benefited from fisheries schemes, while infrastructure development, including Rs 1,130 crore underground power line projects and the installation of 4G BSNL towers, is underway to enhance connectivity. He also stated that fifteen projects worth Rs 1,059 crore were approved by IPB this year, which are expected to generate 1,894 jobs.

 He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting the Mhadei River, stating, "We are fighting in the Supreme Court to ensure the flow of the Mhadei is maintained, iron ore mining industry has finally resume due to our efforts."

On women empowerment, Sawant announced the government’s ambitious goal to create 17,000 Lakhpati Didis in Goa by next year, through various schemes that have already benefited millions of women across the state.

The Chief Minister further highlighted the significance of the Exposition of the relics of St. Francis Xavier, stating that it sends a global message of peace, unity, and harmony.

The Goa Liberation Day celebrations extended to Delhi, where Union Minister Shripad Naik and Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanawade marked the occasion.
