Goa launches its first Centre of Excellence for HVAC Training

PANAJI: Goa’s first Centre of Excellence for HVAC training was inaugurated at the Government ITI in Farmagudi by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant today evening.

The facility aims to equip youth with industry-relevant skills, offering hands-on experience with advanced technology and bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application.

Speaking at the launch event at the Mantralaya, Sawant emphasized Goa’s commitment to skilling, reskilling, and upskilling its youth, aligning with the central government's Skill India initiative. He highlighted the role of skilled workers in Goa’s economic development and stressed the importance of industry collaborations to enhance employment opportunities.

"A skilled youth force is the backbone of Viksit Bharat, and Goa is dedicated to shaping its future through comprehensive skill development programs," Sawant stated.

Encouraging youth to take advantage of skill-based training, Sawant said, “All the ITIs in Goa are ready. I encourage the youth to enroll in the new academic year. This is the first opportunity to receive training in HVAC, plumbing, fire and safety, hospitality, and more across the ten ITIs in Goa.”

Developed in collaboration with Daikin Air Conditioner India Private Limited and the Directorate of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, the centre will feature faculty training programs, industry mentorships with Daikin professionals, and job placement opportunities, particularly within Daikin’s workforce.

Daikin India Chairman and MD Kanwaljeet Jawa stressed the growing demand for skilled HVAC professionals. He pointed out that India’s air conditioning industry, identified as a ‘sunrise industry’ by the central government, is expected to grow tenfold in the next decade.

"This partnership is a strategic move toward Goa’s development. With the increasing demand for HVAC professionals, this training centre will equip youth with the skills needed to meet evolving industry needs. It will also create opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship," said Jawa.

The initiative aligns with Goa’s broader goal of strengthening its higher education and skill development infrastructure. Sawant highlighted Goa’s investment in institutions such as IIT, NIT, National Forensic Science University, National Institute of Water Sports, and the International University of Legal Education and Research.
