Panaji: Goa Government signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Harvard University to enhance the educational skills of underprivileged higher secondary students from government schools.

According to the press note issued by CMO, government aims to ensure that no child is denied the opportunity to learn and excel due to their background or circumstances.

The state is working to bridge social gaps in education by improving access, participation, and learning outcomes for all students. Efforts are also underway to reform higher education in Goa, making it inclusive, effective, and rooted in Indian culture while meeting global standards.

For the first time, a program of this caliber is being introduced for high school students and teachers in Goa’s public schools. The program will provide a cross-cultural learning experience based on scientific processes and inspired by the liberal arts and sciences philosophy.

The initiative, called the Program for Scientifically-Inspired Leadership (PSIL), brings together three groups: College students from Harvard University, who will serve as instructors. College students from Goa, who will act as instructor fellows. Grade 11 students from Goa’s public higher secondary schools, who will be the participants.

PSIL introduces high school students to a curriculum focused on liberal arts and science topics that are not typically part of their regular studies. In Goa, students choose their academic stream—science, arts, or commerce—after Grade 10, which often limits their exposure to interdisciplinary learning. PSIL bridges this gap by offering modules that enhance skills and knowledge beyond the traditional classroom experience.

The pilot program will include 100 students from class XI.
