Goa police crackdown on foreign nationals living illegally in the state

Panaji: Goa Police have intensified effortsto address the issue of foreigners overstaying illegally in the state. Aspecial drive, initiated in coastal areas following reports of visa violations,has resulted in multiple FIRs being registered in the past few days. Policestations in Mandrem, Anjuna, and Mapusa have been actively involved in theseoperations.

 

North Goa SP, Akshat Kaushal, stated, “Wehave been receiving information about individuals staying illegally in Goa. Inresponse, we launched a special drive, and FIRs have been registered on a dailybasis for the past three days in various police stations.”

 

Kaushal further emphasized the importance oftenant verification, adding that landlords who fail to conduct proper checkswill also face legal action. “If the owner has not done proper tenantverification, we send a report to the Deputy Collector, and the necessary legalaction is taken,” he explained.

 

The police are relying on visa data tomonitor foreign nationals and swiftly act against those overstaying. “Wecontinuously monitor the data, and whenever we find someone whose visa hasexpired, we take appropriate legal steps, including detention if needed,” saidKaushal.

 

As of now, around 7-8 individuals have beenarrested, and more investigations are ongoing. The police are also addressingconcerns about tenant verification irregularities and have promised strictdisciplinary action against any officials found charging unauthorized fees forthis service..
