DGP Alok Kumar launched the 'Netra' CCTV mapping project, which aims to integrate 2,500 public and government cameras across Goa. This initiative is designed to improve crime detection and aid in identifying criminals' escape routes, ultimately facilitating quicker investigations.

During the inauguration, DGP Kumar emphasised the project's benefits, stating, "CCTV camera mapping was carried out within a month by the police. This will be beneficial when an incident occurs. Through this project, the investigating officer will directly know which camera to access rather than searching for one. He will also find the suspected route of the offender, which will help facilitate the investigation in a shorter time."

The initiative will not only assist in criminal investigations but will also enhance traffic control, accident prevention, and the protection of property. The police have gathered details regarding the ownership of the cameras, including recording times and owner information.

IGP Goa Omvir Singh shared insights about the project's potential, saying, "Such projects are tried and tested in other states. With the success stories from other regions, we are trying to replicate it in Goa. This will benefit both the police and the people. We need to be cautious that the offender does not know where there are no cameras and ensure that we have enough storage."

In addition to the 'Netra' project, the Goa Police has launched official WhatsApp and YouTube channels aimed at authentic information dissemination. The WhatsApp channel will provide real-time updates on crime detection, traffic alerts, and community events, fostering trust between the police and the public. The objective is to reach the ground level and generate trust towards Goa Police.

The YouTube channel will feature in-depth programs on crime detection and educational content, showcasing the work of Goa Police and providing live coverage of their activities.
