In an unprecedented move to prevent exam malpractice, Goa police ordered the temporary closure of cyber cafes and photocopy shops within 200 meters of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) centers in Panaji and Mapusa.

Department sources confirmed to The Goan that the measure, implemented from April 2, is to curb paper leaks and cheating attempts.

An internal order has asked the respective police incharges to enforce the shutdown near JEE venues till the end of the examination on April 9.

Notice boards have been placed at photocopy and printing shops around the exam centers.

In North Goa, examinations are being held at the EDC Complex in Panaji and the Cepodem Centro Pedro Vincent Vaz building in Mapusa. "This is a preventive measure to ensure there is no cheating. We have this heightened security, leaving no room for lapses that could compromise the integrity of the examination," a senior police officer told The Goan.

The JEE (Main), conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), is an important gateway for engineering aspirants seeking admission to premier institutions across the country.
